Our stack, on Nordic Semiconductor, on modules you can buy.

FLSEMI’s DECT NR+ stack runs on the Nordic Semiconductor nRF9151; our Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth Mesh and gateway firmware runs on the Nordic Semiconductor nRF5340. Around these chips we work with three partners: Nordic Semiconductor itself, our sister company BANFi Semiconductor, which builds nRF5340 modules, and LooUQ, which builds an nRF9151 modem in the United States.

Why nRF9151

One System-in-Package, four ways to reach the network

Nordic Semiconductor's nRF9151 carries LTE-M, NB-IoT, DECT NR+ and 3GPP NB-NTN satellite. For us the last two matter most — DECT NR+ because it is what our MAC stack implements, NB-NTN because it is what happens when there is no tower at all.

Our layer

DECT NR+ MAC stack

FLSEMI's DECT NR+ MAC stack is written to ETSI TS 103 636 Release 2 and runs on the nRF9151. It is our own stack, developed and maintained with BANFi Semiconductor; it is not sold or licensed on its own and comes with our development services. On our own bench it passes 43 of the 43 applicable TS 104 047-2 MAC test purposes, together with the Part 5 DLC and CVG purposes; it has not been submitted for formal conformance testing at an accredited laboratory, and TS 104 047-1 radio conformance is not claimed.

Their layer

The module

The stack needs a physical module: RF matching, antenna, power, a footprint. That is what a module supplier brings, and why the choice of supplier is a real engineering decision rather than a purchasing one.

The seam

Where the two meet

Certification status, pin exposure, antenna architecture and integration BOM decide how much of our engineering budget goes into bring-up instead of into the application.

nRF9151 SiP

System-in-Package · Nordic Semiconductor

The nRF9151 is the System-in-Package our MAC stack is written for. Nordic Semiconductor integrates the modem, the application processor, the PMIC, the crystals and the passives into a single 12 × 11 mm package and ships it pre-certified — which is why a module built on it inherits most of the regulatory work rather than repeating it. We source it through Nordic Semiconductor's standard distribution channels, and the LooUQ MTC.2 N9151 below is built on it.

FLSEMI is listed as a Solution Partner in the Nordic Semiconductor Partner Program: our DECT NR+ stack is written for the nRF9151, and our Bluetooth Mesh and gateway work runs on the nRF5340. See our listing →

BANFi Semiconductor is our sister company in Taiwan. Its BFi53MLG is a Nordic Semiconductor nRF5340 module with a 2.4 GHz front-end module in a 12 × 16 mm M.2 LGA package, and it is the core of the BFi53ER0 and BFi53ER0S EdgeRouters: the Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth Mesh and gateway firmware we build runs on it.

MTC.2 N9151

Embedded modem · Michigan, United States

LooUQ is a Michigan-based embedded modem manufacturer. Its MTC.2 N9151 is built on the same nRF9151 our MAC stack targets, and we have run our DECT NR+ MAC stack on it — on an earlier revision; the current revision has not been re-verified. Its Skylo NTN certification is inherited from Nordic Semiconductor's pre-certified nRF9151, so satellite coverage does not require a separate certification programme.

What stays constant

Change the module, keep the stack

Our DECT NR+ stack is written for the nRF9151 and our Bluetooth gateway firmware for the nRF5340, so it moves with the silicon rather than being rewritten for each module. Which module carries it is a sourcing decision: tariffs, lead times, approvals and procurement rules. The stack is not.
